Born in 1956, Dr. Mohammed Faruque is a highly qualified person. He pursued his PhD and Master’s Degree from Edward University, USA. He was a Dhaka University student, where he completed his first Degree in Bachelor of Commerce. He is a Freedom Fighter, took part in the Liberation War of 1971, inspired by the 7th March speech of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Dr. Mohammed Faruque, the founder of ORCHARD GROUP has come long way since the inception of the company. He is one of the leading business personalities, who has vital contribution in on going economic transformation of Bangladesh.
He is the Chairman & CEO of ORCHARD GROUP, where the group is involved in Banking, Insurance, Garments Manufacturing, Ceramic Tiles Manufacturing, Migrant Worker Export & Training Centre, Hotel as well as Real Estate Development & Construction. He is the President of Orchard International, Advisor of Royal Industrial Park Ltd. (Ceramic Unit), Managing Director of Orchard Sweaters Ltd., Chairman of Orchard Industries Ltd., Chairman of Hotel Orchard Plaza Ltd. and Managing Director of Orchard Developers & Construction Limited. He is also a Sponsor Director of NRB Global Bank Ltd., a Founder Board of Trustee of Fareast International University, and the Editor of The Current View a tourism newspaper.
Dr. Mohammed Faruque was awarded CIP (Commercially Important Person) for several times. He was awarded CIP from 1990 to 1995 and from 2000 to 2001 by the Government of Bangladesh. Besides he was also awarded the Atish Diponkar Gold Medal in 1992, Gold Medal from Jatio Shahitta in 1996.
He was the Senior Vice President of BAIRA (Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies) and is a Director of FBCCI for 2017-19 period. Earlier, he was the Founder President of HAAB (Hajj Agency Association of Bangladesh) and the Founder Chairman of BAIRA Life Insurance Company Ltd.
He is actively associated with the Lions Club International (LCI). He was Council Chairman of LCI, Multiple District 315, Bangladesh for the year 1998-99 and also a District Governor of the District 315-B3 for the year 1997-98.
Moreover, he is the Member of Kurmitola Golf Club, Permanent Member of Gulshan Club, a Life Member of Uttara Club, Sponsor Member of Dhanmondi Recreation Club and Donor Member of Banani Club.
Dr. Mohammed Faruque travelled many countries of the world, such as USA, UK, Canada, Germany, France, KSA, UAE, China, Malaysia and India, for his own business development as well as with the Business Delegate of the Honorable Prime Minister’s entourage to improve trade relationship. In 2014, 2017 & 2018 he attended the 69th, 72nd & 73rd UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York as the Honorable Prime Minister’s entourage and in 2015 he also visited Malaysia as a Business Delegate with the Honorable Prime Minister.
